Worn flat idler changes belt wrap angle and lets the deck belt slip under load — new sealed-bearing steel pulley restores correct tension geometry. Test old: spin by hand, any gritty rumble or side play >1mm = replace; belt off-track twice = idler job, not belt-only.
  • Bolt to Deck Bracket, Reuse JD Shoulder Bolt, Torque to Manual Kill PTO, lower deck, disconnect spark plug, photo belt routing, loosen idler mounting bolt, lift old pulley off bracket (note any spacer/washer stack), seat new pulley on same bolt with spacers in original order, hand-start, torque shoulder bolt to John Deere manual (~35 N·m for ZTrak class), reroute belt, check idler alignment with straightedge against spindle pulleys, restart. Critical:​ this is a 6-3/16″ flat idler with 11/16″ bore for ZTrak Accel Deep / Edge HC decks​.
